Who We Are

Catherine Catherine Dell’Orto DVM, MPH has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1997. Upon graduating from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997, she practiced small animal medicine and surgery in the New York Metropolitan area. In 2001, she was granted a post-doctoral fellowship in Comparative Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. At that time she completed a Master’s Degree in Public Health in Environmental Health Science. While at the University, she brought to public attention the atrocities suffered by research animals. She continues to advocate for animals unable to speak for themselves through education, peaceful protest and lobbying for reform in animal research.

"I wonder, are we really advancing ourselves as a culture by doing this?" Dr. Dell'Orto asked (regarding the use of animals for medical testing). She, herself has suffered for almost 20 years with the neurological form of Lyme disease. If given a chance of a cure that involved the medical experimentation of animals or continued suffering, even dying from the infection, she would choose to suffer. “The nature of this life is suffering. If I must harm the weak to feel better, I would rather continue to suffer.”
